OUR INDUSTRY CALLS ON YOU TO SHOW THE

NYC TLC HOW MANY EVERYDAY NEW YORKERS WILL BE HURT BY ITS DISASTROUS PROPOSED RULES!

The New York City Taxi and Limousine Commission has put forward a set of proposed rules which, if passed as currently written, would ABSOLUTELY CRIPPLE long-standing small, medium and large family and community businesses, most likely resulting in the widespread closure of many of these businesses. Not only that, but the TENS OF THOUSANDS OF DRIVERS who own their vehicles (the overwhelming MAJORITY) would be required to purchase costly, fuel-inefficient, hard to maintain accessible vehicles to satisfy the mandate, which would plunge them ALL into financial RUIN. That's tens of thousands of New Yorkers who will be losing their primary sources of income - the income that buys their children new clothes for school and supplies - the income that pays their child's college tuition - the income that pays the rent and keeps food on their family table - the income that gets re-circulated within literally COUNTLESS other New York City, independently-owned businesses.
These are every day New Yorkers who have long served this city and contributed to businesses who have long served as pillars of our community. The NYC TLC call for 25% of jobs to be dispatched to accessible vehicles by the year 2021, if implemented, would annihilate these businesses and jobs. We CANNOT allow our fellow New Yorkers to be hurt in such a way, nor can we stand idly by while an industry we have all worked so hard to get to where it is, get pulverized by regulation not rooted in fiscal reality, especially being the regulation, as is,
WOULD NOT ADEQUATELY ADDRESS THE ACCESSIBILITY ISSUE AT HAND!
The BCAC spearheaded the move to form an industry "coalition," as it's come to be referred to, made up of representatives from multiple corners of our industry, very often in opposition of one another - a feat, all on its own. As a unified coalition, we have come out in strong opposition of these proposed rules, and have met with the TLC as this unified voice to tell them just that, as well as why - the undisputed devastation of our industries is at stake.
